I’m joining #FiveMinuteFriday over at Kate Motaung’s place. The word prompt is CONNECT. Below is five minutes of free flow writing. The words START and STOP indicate where the timer started and ended. Go!
Have you ever played with those plastic toy links?
You know the ones that are multi colored and shaped like a large paper clip. You link them together and make a very large circle or any other shape you feel inclined to make.
The word connect makes me think of those links.
All links don’t look alike. Some brands make the links in various shapes and sizes. I like them because they are more consistent to the real world. We don’t all fit the same mold, do we?
In this Christian zone that we call home we find it difficult to link up with each other. We don’t all look the same, talk or walk the same. We come from various cultures and socio-economic classes. Our individual homes with their norms and mores are as different as those multi-colored links.
Now add to those variables the fact that we have a holy God calling us to connect to him. He tells us in James 4:8, if we would connect to him, he would connect with us.
“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded”. James 4:8 KJV
He doesn’t give us a list of dos and don’ts. He simple calls us to connect with him. He’s standing there with his arms open wide waiting on us.
Once we connect with God, we will find it easier to connect with other believers. He will allow us to see our fellow brothers and sisters through his eyes just as the new testament believers in Acts.
“Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved”. Acts 2:46-47 NIV
I don’t like boring, dull colors, I got that trait from my heavenly father. Just look at the colorful world he created and its inhabitants. We are far from clones. Our uniqueness makes us beautiful to him and we should admire it as well.
So join me as we answer God’s call to connect. Our relationship with him will be stronger and our desire to be in community with other believers will be ignited.
